Did you know: Eating in front of your screen can increase your chances of bloating?

Did you know: Eating in front of your screen can increase your chances of bloating?

Plus a bunch of other digestion issues. Here’s how.

Thinking about finally replying to that annoying email from accounts while you knock back your lunch? Think again. Here’s why we’re big big fans of taking time out to eat your food.

When we’re stressed, our bodies can go into Fight or Flight mode. We likely all know the feeling well, but did you know that your body has trouble digesting food when it’s in this zone?

Eating while we work can often mean we’re eating when we’re under pressure. If our stress response is activated, our digestive system is suppressed and slowed down so your body can focus on managing the pressure. Enter: Fight or Flight.

When our digestion is suppressed, the blood flow to our digestive organs slows down, the production of enzymes that break down our food is limited and the contractions of our digestive muscles slows down. And, when we don’t eat mindfully, our brain can miss the cues to get this process rolling too.

Why does this matter? Disrupted or suppressed digestion can cause bloating, cramping, indigestion or constipation because our food is just sitting there. All to reply to Simon from Finance? No thanks.

So, if you can, get outside and eat your lunch today. Soak up some sunshine, breathe in some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful food you’re fuelling your body with.
