Recent studies show that good-quality foods can actually improve your mood. Isn’t that great? We want to share the good vibes with you, so we’ve compiled 6 of our favourite healthy foods that have also been known to work wonders for our moods too.
1. Fatty fish
Fish are friends, and food. Fatty fish like salmon or tuna are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are a group of essential fats that contribute to your overall brain health. In particular, two of these omega-3 acids found in fish have also been linked to lower levels of depression. Just keep swimmin’, remember?
2. Dark chocolate
God, the choccie news just keeps getting better and better. Good quality dark chocolate is rich in compounds that can increase feel-good chemicals in your brain. Plus, just the thought of munching on some choccy can turn any bad day around, right?
Berries are packed full of antioxidants and disease-fighting anthocyanins which do wonders in managing stress levels and improving overall mood. Berry, berry good.
4. Nuts and seeds
Nuts and seeds are high in plant-based proteins, healthy fats, fiber, and an amino acid that helps produce serotonin. And, a 10-year study in 15,980 people linked moderate nut intake to a 23% lower risk of depression*. Ah nuts, they walnut let you down.
Not only are they the colour of sunshine and shaped like a literal smile, but they’re high in vitamin B6 which helps produce dopamine and serotonin. And, with a good mix of sugar and fibre, bananas help to regulate your blood sugar levels so you can avoid those mid-arvo mood swings we know and love.
6. Super Bites
Our Super Bites are attention seekers and wouldn’t let us finish this list without making sure they got a nod (*eye-roll*). Remember how we mentioned dark chocolate, nuts and seeds and berries earlier in this list? Yup, our Super Bites contain all those mood-boosting goodies and more, all wrapped up into one cute, colourful and compostable wrapper. Like a good mood in a bite, basically.
We’ve popped all six flavours into a brand new Mood Food gift box to help kick-start your Mood Food journey and help you feel good inside and out.
